“Gritty” Cavalry FC beats Pacific FC, secures home playoff game

Cavalry FC beat Pacific FC 1-0 to move second in the Canadian Premier League table and secure a home playoff game once the playoffs start later this month.

Joe Mason scored the games lone goal in the 16th minute after an accurate cross from Cavs winger Mo Farsi.

“Sometimes you’ve got to combine the pretty with the gritty,” said Cavalry FC head coach Tommy Wheeldon Jr. after the game. “And I think we did that today. I thought first half we played some really nice football. Second half we had to dig in and they made it physical and they made it tough.

“So we’re delighted, especially after conceding four last week, to keep a shut out against the highest scoring team in the league. It shows how tough our team is.”
