York United FC settled for a 1-1 draw with HFX Wanderers FC in Canadian Premier League action Wednesday, as both teams will have left thinking they had a chance to collect all three points.
The hero of the match has to go to York United FC second choice goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos, standing in for regular keeper Nathan Ingham. Late in the second half he stood tall as he faced one on one with Halifax’s forward Alex Marshal blocking the shot with his left foot.
Loading ...York were unable to score a second goal after scoring their only goal of the match just three minutes into play. At one point, captain Dominick Zator was unfortunate to have a perfectly placed header from a corner kick find its way past the keeper but only to be cleared off the line by a defender. Unable to put the match away it left the door open for HFX Wanderers to claw their way back into the match scoring late in the second half via substitute striker Samuel Salter.
York United FC keep their unbeaten run alive but will be looking to collect all three points in their next match when they will play Forge FC on the road at Tim Hortons Field.
